Professor Anthony Lau Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering University of British Columbia, Canada Topic:Improving the Quality of Waste Biomass by Reducing Ash Content and the Inorganic Constituents |
Dr. Anthony Lau is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at UBC. His research interest is in the area of waste management for resource recovery. At present, his research projects may be divided into two major sub-areas: 1) biomass feedstock engineering, and 2) bioconversion processes and systems. Biomass feedstock engineering includes the characterization, preprocessing, storage, and quality control of lignocellulosic waste resources such as wood waste, municipal solid waste, forest-origin residues and agricultural residues. These activities bridge the gap between waste collection and the production and utilization of solid and liquid biofuels. Research work on biomass feedstock engineering is extended to wood pellets as a densified form of solid biofuel. Studies on bioconversion processes and systems are primarily focused on aerobic composting and anaerobic fermentation of non-woody waste biomass.
