Assistant Professor Charin Techapun, PhD received the Doctorate Degree at Hiroshima Kokusai Gakuin University, Japan on Bioprocess Engineering. He currently has more than 60 publications in the national / international refereed journals and 3 pending national patents. He is presently tenured by the School of Agro-Industry, Faculty of Agro-Industry, Chiang Mai University, Thailand since 1998. He was the Dean, Faculty of Agro-Industry, Chiang Mai University between 2009 – 2016 and is now served as an Assistant President of Chaing Mai University as well as Acting Dean, College of Maritime Studies and Management since 2016.  His research interests include ethanol production from agricultural materials and high value added compounds production from agricultural and agro-indsutrial wastes, enzyme production, and zero waste process. He has successfully applied for funding and served as one of two project overseers of an International Symposium entitled “Biofuels from Agricultural and Agro-Industrial Wastes” during 24th – 27th May 2010 and “APEC-ATCWG Biofuels Network Annual Symposium and Biotrade/Technical Training Workshop” during 30th May – 4th June 2011 from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The notable research grants that he has received and participated as either research project/program leader or co-project leader included; (1) Research Projects involving the construction of Pilot Plant of ethanol and winery production from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) during fiscal year 2000 – 2002; (2) Research Project: Validation of Longan Sugar Production Technology and Properties on the Quality, Health and Commercial Potential Aspects from Agricultural Research and Development Agency (ARDA) as well as the Longan Extract Demonstration Plant from the Strategic Office of Upper Northern Region I for fiscal year 2011 – 2013 which eventually led to the highest record (in term of values) technology transfer bidding for private sector (PM group & Natural Beverage Co Ltd) in CMU’s research history between 2016 - present; (3) National Research University (NRU) Research Project: The Production of Biofuels and High Value Chemicals from Agricultural and Agro - Industrial Waste Materials Using Complete Zero Waste Process from HEC and National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) for fiscal year 2011 – 2016; (4) Sino-Thai Project (Phase I and Phase II) on biofuels and biorefinery productions since 2013; (5) Non-food Agricultural NRU research between 2015 - 2018. Chiang Mai University had awarded a Doctorate thesis (Dr.Julaluk Tangtua) under his co - supervision as of “Excellent” quality in 2015. The establishment of Bioprocess Research Cluster (BRC) as well as several notable research topics under BRC are the inception by Dean Charin Techapun.
