Professor Manuel Diaz de los Rios Graduated from Chemical Engineer in 1980. And he has 32 years of experience in activities of Research and Development (R & D). During his professional activity he has participated in important work teams related with processes scale up, in particular of chemical reactors for polymerisation reactions and organic chemistry. Additionally, he has managed activities of design and construction of pilot plants; one of those constitutes the fundamental base of work of the Chemical Engineering Department of the Cuban Research Institute of Sugar Cane Derivatives (ICIDCA).

Professor Manuel Diaz de los Rios has managed more than 30 activities of R & D, as well as activities of technology transfer of discontinuous processes for the Agro-Chemical productions. He has also participated and directed several technical and commercial missions linked to development activities in various countries, such as:

• Study of the diversification alternatives for the sugar mill “Andahuasi”, Perú.

• Energetic evaluation of the sugar mill “ Motzorongo”, Mexico,

• Feasibility study for ethanol production in the sugar mill “Atencingo”, Mexico.

• Feasibility study for ethanol production in 11 new sugar mills in Venezuela

• Evaluation of diversification alternatives for the sugar mill “La Troncal”, Ecuador.

• Technical assistances to PDVSA in Brazil to evaluate the mass balances between sugar mills and distilleries supplied by NG and JW to Venezuela.
